PATIENT ACCESS REPRESENTATIVE
Practice Setting: Hospital-Based
JOB SUMMARY:
The Patient Access Representative is responsible for patient registration and scheduling for hospital services. The role includes verifying demographic and insurance information, obtaining authorizations, completing pre-admission and admission functions, and supporting Emergency Department registration.
- Provide exceptional customer service.
- Work collaboratively with patients, physician offices, and hospital departments.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient information.
- Protect patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet patients and collect demographic, insurance, and financial information.
- Complete patient registration for outpatient, surgical, and inpatient services.
- Schedule laboratory and X-ray services.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
- Obtain required insurance authorizations.
- Handle patient calls with professional telephone etiquette.
- Process required hospital and patient legal forms.
- Support Emergency Department registration.
- Maintain accurate documentation in hospital and physician systems.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Work effectively across multiple Patient Access service areas, including the Emergency Department.
- Assist with training new employees as needed.
- Participate in continuing education and maintain knowledge of applicable policies and regulations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2–3 years of current, relevant medical setting experience.
- Previous scheduling and/or registration experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Paragon EMR experience preferred.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
