Phlebotomist / Medical Laboratory Professional
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced laboratory professional to collect, prepare, and process blood specimens for laboratory testing. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) experience, current ASCP certification, and BLS certification.
The selected candidate will be responsible for accurate specimen collection, proper labeling and processing, maintaining laboratory equipment, and following established safety, infection-control, quality-control, and accreditation standards.
Shift:
10:00am - 7:30pm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and skin puncture procedures to obtain blood samples for laboratory testing.
- Verify patient identification and ensure specimens are accurately labeled and matched with the appropriate laboratory requisition forms.
- Enter patient, specimen, insurance, and billing information into the appropriate laboratory information systems.
- Process and prepare specimens according to established laboratory procedures and guidelines.
- Assist medical technologists and pathologists with designated laboratory testing procedures as needed.
- Maintain blood-drawing trays and ensure all instruments are sterile and collection supplies are properly prepared for use.
- Dispose of contaminated needles, blood products, and other biohazardous materials according to applicable regulations and facility policies.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, records, and work areas in accordance with quality-control and accreditation standards.
- Follow infection-control procedures, hazardous waste protocols, and workplace safety guidelines to protect patients and staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) experience.
- Current ASCP certification – documentation required.
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow specimen collection, processing, and safety procedures.
- Excellent patient identification, specimen handling, and documentation skills.
