Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) / Physician Assistant – Cardiothoracic ICU
Seeking an experienced ACNP or Physician Assistant to join a busy Cardiothoracic Critical Care team supporting patients recovering from complex cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures. This role focuses on ICU management and does not require surgical first assist experience.
Schedule:
- 12–13-hour shifts
- Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM
- Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 8:00 AM
- Assignment requires a provider committed to remaining on-site for the duration of the contract
Responsibilities:
- Manage critically ill cardiothoracic surgery patients in the ICU
- Care for patients recovering from CABG, valve surgery, aortic surgery, and thoracic procedures
- Collaborate with physicians and APPs in the management of advanced mechanical circulatory support devices, including ECMO, LVADs, RVADs, Impella, and IABPs
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies and develop treatment plans
- Respond to emergent and critical care situations
- Deliver evidence-based perioperative and critical care management
Procedural Opportunities:
- Central venous catheter placement
- Arterial line insertion
- Bronchoscopy
- Chest tube management
- Dialysis catheter placement
Requirements:
- Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant
- Cardiothoracic ICU or cardiac critical care experience required
- Ability to practice autonomously in a fast-paced ICU environment
- Strong clinical decision-making and teamwork skills
Practice Details:
- Hospital-based critical care setting
- 6–12 patients per day plus consults
- Adult patient population
- Epic EMR
- Collaborative team with 1–2 providers per shift
- 733-bed Level I Trauma Center with a dedicated 12-bed Cardiac Surgery ICU
