Point of Care Lab Technician

JOB SUMMARY:
  • Perform waived laboratory testing in remote/mobile settings under the supervision of a Laboratory Manager.
  • Process specimens, perform testing, document results, and maintain quality control.
  • Support mobile lab operations and STAT testing as needed.
  • Must drive to the designated van pickup location to pick up and return the van each shift.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Receive and process specimens from phlebotomists and couriers.
  • Enter patient demographics and test orders into the laboratory information system.
  • Perform point-of-care testing in Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Molecular, and Coagulation.
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection.
  • Perform and document quality control testing.
  • Confirm abnormal and unusual results before reporting.
  • Monitor STAT testing to meet turnaround-time requirements.
  • Maintain supply inventory and required documentation.
  • Troubleshoot client, equipment, and computer issues.
  • Perform equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Maintain specimen, testing, QC, and reporting records.
  • Follow all laboratory safety and infection-control protocols.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be an LVN, MLT, or CLS – REQUIRED.
  • California licensure/certification required.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record – REQUIRED.
  • Ability to safely operate a vehicle – REQUIRED.
  • Familiarity with laboratory processes and workflow – REQUIRED.
  • Previous phlebotomy and laboratory testing experience – PREFERRED.
  • High school diploma or equivalent – REQUIRED.
  • Must qualify as testing personnel for waived testing under California requirements.
  • Strong communication, organization, attention to detail, and accuracy.
  • COVID-19 vaccination required; exemptions may be considered with appropriate documentation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, talk, and hear.
  • Ability to occasionally sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 15 lbs. on occasion.
  • Ability to work safely around blood-borne pathogens, biological materials, and other laboratory hazards.
