Point of Care Lab Technician

Healthcare organization seeking a skilled Point of Care Lab Technician to perform waived laboratory testing in a mobile or remote healthcare setting. This role works under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager and is responsible for specimen processing, quality control, phlebotomy, laboratory testing, equipment maintenance, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting of results.

Key Responsibilities:
  •  Perform waived laboratory testing including Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Molecular, and Coagulation testing.
  •  Collect blood specimens through venipuncture and capillary collection.
  •  Process specimens and enter patient demographics, orders, and test results into the laboratory information system. 
  •  Monitor and maintain quality control procedures and documentation. 
  •  Verify abnormal or improbable results before release. 
  •  Troubleshoot instrument, computer, and workflow issues as needed. 
  •  Perform maintenance and monitoring of laboratory equipment. 
  •  Maintain STAT turnaround times and assist with supply inventory management. 
  •  Follow all laboratory safety and infection control protocols. 
  •  Support clerical and documentation functions related to specimen integrity and reporting. 
  •  May operate a mobile lab vehicle when needed.
 
Requirements:
  •  High school diploma or equivalent required.
  •  Valid driver’s license with a good driving record required. 
  •  Familiarity with laboratory processes and workflow required. 
  •  California licensure/certification required per state regulations. 
  •  Must qualify as waived testing personnel in California. 
  •  Candidates must hold one of the following: 
    •  Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN). 
    •  Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT). 
    •  Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS). 
  •  Strong attention to detail and organizational skills preferred. 
  •  Excellent verbal and written communication skills preferred. 
  •  COVID-19 vaccination required or approved exemption documentation.
 
Important Note:
  •  No Phlebotomists – candidates must be LVN, MLT, or CLS licensed professionals 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  •  Position involves exposure to laboratory hazards including blood-borne pathogens and biological materials.
  •  Frequent standing, walking, lifting, pushing/pulling equipment, and specimen handling required. 
  •  Ability to push/pull equipment weighing up to 50–100 lbs at times. 
  •  Must be able to meet visual and physical demands associated with laboratory operations.
